About the artist
Gregory Pyra, an international jewelry artist, has his work shown currently in museums such as the Malbork Castle Museum, in Malbork, and the Amber Museum in Gdansk in Poland. In the past he has made pieces for the Royal family in Sweden, for King Gustav and Queen Silvia in 1976 after his work was shown in Tidö Slott, in Tidö, Sweden. Gregory has had shows since the 1970's until the present throughout Europe and United States. Gregory had his jewelry works published in numerous books, which were printed in Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, France, etc. Some of his recent made work currently is found in galleries in the United States. His work in USA and Europe is one of the very few rarities that is still artist originaly made. Gregory Pyra jewelry today clearly shows the difference between craft jewelry, popular in the UK and USA, and his own class of art jewelry, in that craft jewelry is just handmade vs. that art jewelry goes beyond into showing something that the artist creates that is not common to see. Some above examples of Piro designer art jewelry in contemporary earrings. The earrings designs are from sterling silver with 14 karat gold. They may also be made in all gold. If Piro does a design in gold Piro likes to mix colors of gold, yellow gold, green gold, pink gold, and white gold in gold designs. The gem stones may include many of the facet cut gem stones of amethyst, blue topaz, garnet, citrine, peridot, and many colors of tourmaline which may be in the sterling silver and gold designs or mixed color gold designs. Also, of course, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds are used. What is different in Piro designs is that such materials as amber, sea glass, glass, may be included together with the facet cut stones, which on one hand makes the jewelry a fine jewelry and on the other hand art jewelry, both worlds of jewelry in single designs. With the sterling silver and gold in Piro designs even sometimes ebony wood or black oak is in some of the best pieces, such as are part of the museum collections by Piro in the Malbork Castle Museum in Malbork, Poland and The Amber Museum in Gdansk, Poland, which made a mark on Polish jewelry history in Poland and in Europe.
